“Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland and a favorite of the unmarried King, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, she wants to open a shop and create delectable pastries. But for her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for a woman who could be a queen.
At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the King’s marriage proposal, she meets handsome and mysterious Jest. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into a secret courtship.
Cath is determined to choose her own destiny. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.”
I am only going to talk about our main girl Catherine, because I think the least you know about this book the more you will enjoy it. The only thing I knew when I started this book was that this is a Retelling of the Queen of Hearts, or how she became the Queen of Hearts.
As we get to meet Catherine, she is a very passionate girl when it comes to the thing she loves to do the most, baking. It is her dream to start her own bakery instead of marrying the King. She is a very sweet character as we get to know her.
I really enjoyed the writing. It really made me feel like I was in Wonderland in a nonsensical way while sort of made sense. The way some sayings were interpreted literally. Like you are talking to a child, who takes you upon your words, literally.
Well knowing that this is the story about how the Queen of Hearts came to be, you know that something must happen will the sweet and optimistic Catherine turn into the evil Queen. Even though the ending was rushed, I did enjoy it.
I really enjoyed reading this book. At a certain point I liked reading it so much that I putted it off because I didn’t wanted the story to be over. I really would recommend this book!
