It is the second day of the MIAW! And today I am going to share with you guys the two books that helped me while I was at my worst. And the funniest thing is that I both buddy read these two books. And those are The Hate U Give and 13 Reasons Why. I buddy read these books together with Jasmine.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
I hadn’t been reading much at all when I started the buddy read, and this was the first book we would be reading together. But this book was so investing and I was so engrossed in everything that was happening, that I continued reading it, until 4 days later I read half the book in 1 sitting. So this book is really special to me, and I will defend it, till death do us apart (maybe not the right sentence to use, but it is true).
13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Now I know that this book is problematic and that there isn’t any discussion on Hannah having a depression. The focus is put on the suicide. I can see the things which are wrong with this book. But this was the first book I read about mental health since I was diagnosed with depression. I had been searching for books about depression, which I could read so I could relate to the main character, because that is what I needed. And this book gave me that. I related to Hannah’s feeling, I knew I wasn’t alone in this, but this was the first time I felt it.
