May 2019 | Kpop Playlist

Hello Readers!

In the spirit of the Asian Readathon and May being Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, I thought it would be a fun idea to share some of the Kpop songs I will be listening to in the month of May.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Kpop it stands for Korean Pop, it has become pretty popular as of late and I recently got into it. I listened to my first Kpop song in November I believe, so I am still a baby as it comes to Kpop. But here are some of the groups and songs I have been enjoying these past few months and will enjoy in May as well.

Blackpink – Kill This Love

I love Blackpink! They are the first Kpop group I listened to and Kill This Love is their comeback which released in the beginning of April, along with an album at the end of April. I still need to get my hands on a copy, but local stores don’t have it yet, so my only option is Amazon and then I need to wait weeks…

Jennie – Solo

Jennie is the first member of Blackpink to get a solo song and that is Solo. It is confirmed that the other member will be getting a solo as well. I enjoy Solo, I do plan to learn the dance in the near future.

BTS – Boy With Luv ft. Halsey

Even if you haven’t heard of Kpop before, you have probably heard of BTS. They are taking over America at the moment and I am still waiting for their song to appear on the radio in the Netherlands. I do have to say that I had to get used to this song since I was expecting the next Idol or Fake Love, but now that I have listened to it a few times I love it just as much.

Mamamoo – gogobebe

I only started listening to Mamamoo a few weeks ago and right now I am at the stage that I know the names of the members. And my first song by them was Gogobebe and I was immediately loving the song, so my goal for the next few weeks is listening to all their songs.

Hwa Sa – Twit

Hwa Sa is a member of Mamamoo and this is her first solo song (I think this is her debut song as a solo artist, not I am not really sure). It is stuck in my head at the moment, so I think that says enough.

Momoland – I’m So Hot

Another comeback of 2019. Momoland is a girl group with 9 members, only in this comeback there are only 7 members. Two members are struggling with problems which made it not possible for them to be a part of this comeback. I am really new to Momoland, I know just a few names (I have always been horrible with names) and I am slowly learning the other names.

As you can see I mainly listen to girl groups, that is just my preference. If you have any recommendations for songs of these artists or other artists, I would love to hear them. Have you listened to kpop and these songs before? Who is your favorite artist? And did you enjoy this kind of post from me (or should I just keep my blog about books)? And if you would love to see more of these posts I also would love to hear it.

  1. Ooooh I didn’t know you started listening to kpop! As you should know, you can always come to me for recs 🙂 Hope you’re able to get your Blackpink album in a reasonable timeframe haha! I’ve been lucky enough to have a kpop store near my house and Target usually carries BTS albums. I loved Boy With Luv because it wasn’t like Fake Love and Idol haha. Mamamoo is GREAT! I love them and they’re SUPER talented. You’re right, Twit is Hwasa’s solo debut.

    1. I think I am just going to cave and buy it of Amazon and just wait patiently of it to arrive, I can buy it on other sites online but than the version is random and I want the pink one 🤣. Now I love Boy with Luv, I just wasn’t expecting it so I had to adapt to that 😂 Do you have any girl group recs, which I need to listen to?

      1. Hope you’re able to get the version you want! I love physical kpop albums because they’re packaged so prettily and you get goodies with it 😀 girl groups i love are: twice, red velvet, mamamoo, (g)-idle, clc and fromis_9 are pretty good, iz*one, and dreamcatcher! oh and gfriend is pretty good too. clc, (g)-idle, and dreamcatcher have a more ‘mature’ look and sound than the others and are less pop-sounding.
